Lazarus in John chapter 11


Verses 38-45:

.38Therefore Jesus again being grave in himself comes into the memorial-place, but it was a cave and a stone was-laid on it. .39Jesus says, "You must lift the stone." Martha, the sister of the (man) having completed2 (his life), says to him, "Lord, already he has-odor for it is the fourth-day." .40Jesus says to her, "I said to you that if-ever you may believe you will see the glory of God, didn't I?" - (yes.)

.41Therefore they lifted the stone; but Jesus lifted the eyes upwardly and said, "Father, I thank You because You heard me, .42but I had known that always You hear me; but because-of the crowd, the (crowd) standing-around2, I said in order that they may believe that You apostled me."

.43And having said these-things, with a great sound he cried-out, "Lazarus, come-this-way outside." .44The (man) having died2 came-out, having been bound2 the feet and the hands with wrappings and his sight had been bound-around with a handkerchief. Jesus says to them, "You must loosen him and leave him to go."

.45Therefore many-people from the Judeans, the (Judeans) having come towards Mary and having gazed-upon which-things he did, believed into him.

Following-on logically, Jesus – again being grave in himself (a second, another, further time, once again being intense and deeply moved within himself with/by the holy spirit in him, as verse 33 above) – goes into the memorial-place, but during that past time it was a cave (cavern) and a stone was laid (caused to lie) upon it.

Jesus says, "It is imperative that you lift the stone (take it up from the entrance to the cave)." Jesus knew that Lazarus would not be able to walk through the stone after he was resurrected during this situation.

Martha – specifically the sister of the man who completed his life (whose life ended, Lazarus had died) and who continues being dead at that time – says to Jesus, "Lord (Master), by this time he has odor (he smells) for it is the fourth day since he died (refer also to verse 17 above)."

Jesus says to her...

·         "I said to you that

·         if it should happen at any time that you would believe (have faith, trust what I said to you)

·         you will see the glory of God (God's glory, importance, renown, splendor will be presented to be perceived with your eyes and known by you; refer to verses 4 and 23-26 above),

    • didn't I?" Yes! The Greek construction of this question indicates that the expected answer is "yes."

Following-on from what Jesus said, Martha and Mary then gave permission for the removal of the stone and it was lifted (taken up) from the entrance to the cave.

Jesus lifted his eyes (took his eyes in an upward direction) and said...

·         "Father (addressing God with the word "Father" which emphasizes Jesus' sonship relationship with God),

·         I thank You (the verb "to thank" in the Greek comes from the same root word as the word "grace" plus the word "well" or "well-off"; Jesus is the recipient of grace in this situation and by the freedom of his will he is expressing well his gratitude to God his Father Who is the Giver of this grace, the unmerited or undeserved favor regarding this situation)

    • because You heard me (You have already listened to me being the one from whom the sound of the voice comes when I talked to You regarding this situation; refer to verses 4-7 above),

·         but emphatically I had known (again there is emphasis by including a definite word for “I” – I myself had known during a past time with a result that is ended, I myself perceived, I saw to the end of perceiving and knowing with my mind)

    • that constantly You hear me (at all times You are listening to me);

·         but contrary to my knowing this truth, it is on account of the crowd (the throng of people),

    • emphatically the crowd who stood and continue standing around (those standing about me on the perimeter aloof from me, not joining me),

·         I said (say what I am saying out loud in this situation)

    • for the purpose and result that
    • they would believe (have faith, trust)
    • that emphatically You apostled me (again there is emphasis by including a definite word for “You” – You Yourself sent me forth/away on this specific mission or assignment)."

After Jesus said these things, with a great sound he cried-out (with a large voice or uttered-tone, loudly - he made an outcry, clamor, scream, he intensely shouted, and in this context it was in controversy against the death of Lazarus and so that the crowd could hear him)...

·         "Lazarus (specifically addressing the dead man by name),

·         come-this-way outside (come here out from the cave, external to it)."

The man who already died went out from the cave, and he was still bound (tied, fastened) at his feet and at his hands with wrappings (the strips of cloth that were put on his dead body for burial, the coverings around the body). When he went out from the grave the wrappings were not binding both of his legs together tightly because then he would not have been able to walk out from the cave. Also, his sight had been bound around with a handkerchief (his appearance/face had been tied around by a napkin, a face-cloth).

Jesus says to them...

·         "You must loosen him (it is imperative that you loosen him, you must unbind, unfasten, untie him)

·         and leave him to go (in the sense of letting him go from your concern, dismiss him and thereby permit Lazarus to go without any argument, under cover, as animals go because they are under a yoke without going from side to side or intentionally stopping to do something else)."

Following-on logically from this event, a lot of people from among the Judeans – emphatically and specifically the Judeans who went towards Mary, and after they gazed upon (looked at with a purpose, purposefully saw) the things that Jesus did – believed into Jesus (they had faith-in, trusted into, directed-to, or regarding him whereby he was the object of their believing, trusting what he was saying and doing; refer to verses 15, 40 and 42 above).

Lazarus had been raised up (resurrected, caused to stand up) alive from being dead. He was brought back to life receiving the same body/soul that he had prior to his death (he did not receive a spiritual body).

Since that time, Lazarus has died again and he remains dead; but in the future he will receive eternal life with a spiritual body at the time of resurrection (refer to Revelation chapters 20 – 22).

In verse 41 above, Jesus addressed the only true God as “Father” – he knew who he was (God’s son) and he knew who God was (his Father). A 'father' is literally one who has begotten a child with/by his own seed/sperm, and so the son/daughter has originated from his father's seed, and this fact cannot be changed. The father is strong and he protects, feeds, etc, his family. God gave Jesus the permission and authority to use the name of "Father" when talking to/with Him and when referring to God while speaking with others. Refer to Matthew 1:18-25, 3:13-17; John 5:19 and 43, 10:29 and 30, 17:6, 11, 12 and 26.

In verse 42 above, it is interesting to note that the verb “I said” is in the aorist tense in the Greek texts, which is why it may be translated as a past event; however, this tense can refer to any time past, present, or future emphasizing that once this event is accomplished. Jesus said something specific in this situation – it is done, finished, it will not need to be done a second time!

Jesus spoke out loud so that others could hear him and have the opportunity to believe what he said; also refer to verse 45 above.

Mark 10


.13And they used-to carry-towards him young-children in order that he may touch them, but the learning-disciples censured them. .14But Jesus having seen was vexed and said to them, "You must leave the young-children to come towards me, you must not hinder them, for the kingdom of God is of the people-of-this-kind. .15With-certainty I say to you, who ever may not accept the kingdom of God as a young-child may never go into it."

.16And having taken them in-his-arms he used-to bless-down putting (his) hands on them.

During that past time the people were carrying towards (bringing, offering to) Jesus young/little children for the purpose and result that he would touch them (apply himself to the children, in the sense of putting his hands on them while praying to God regarding them), but the learning-disciples censured them (his students inflicted penalty or infringement, reprimanded, judged by estimating what they considered to be the correct honor or value due in this situation which was punishment for the ‘offense’ committed by them). As we read on we see that Jesus did not consider this an offense at all.

But after Jesus saw (perceived) what his students were doing, he was vexed (he had the feeling of violent irritation, painful annoyance at their behavior which was wrong and against God and the things of God) and he said to them...

·         "You must leave the young-children to come towards me (in the sense of let them go from your concern as to what they do, dismiss them and thereby permit them to do what they want to do at this moment),

·         you must not hinder (it is imperative that you do not block, prevent) them,

    • for the kingdom of God is of the people-of-this-kind (God's spiritual kingdom presently and actively is pertaining-to such people, i.e., those who come towards me accepting what I give to them as these children are coming towards me and accepting what I give to them; these are the sort of people who are eligible to belong to the kingdom of God at a future time when God via myself, Jesus, will make permanent holy spirit-life available to them; refer to Mark 9:1).

·         With-certainty I say to you (surely, truly, amen I am laying these words before you),

    • whatever person would not accept the kingdom of God (not welcome, not subjectively-receive or willingly take God's spiritual kingdom being presented to that human-being, who ever would not accept holy spirit-life)
    • in comparison to a young-child (in the way/manner in which a little child willingly comes to me and accepts me)
    • would never go into it (the word translated “never” comes from two Greek words both meaning “no” or “not” – the double negative emphasizes the point – that human-being would not ever come into it, he would not at any time enter God's kingdom)."

And after Jesus took the young-children in his arms (putting his arms around them, as hugging or embracing the little boys or girls)…

·         during that past time he was continuing to bless down on them (speaking well, speaking words that are good, which included asking God to bless or speak-well-of those young children – because whom/what God speaks well of receives the blessing, it comes to pass for the recipient, what is spoken by God happens to the recipient which is good for him/her/the-situation)

·         putting his hands on them.

When Jesus put his hands on each one it indicated:

·         Jesus’ willingness relative-to the circumstance of each one, offering that individual’s case before God,

·         and this would identify to each one and to all watching concerning whom Jesus was praying to God specifically about, regarding that individual’s circumstance,

·         and so Jesus said God’s words and carried-out and brought-to-pass whatever was good in each particular case,

·         symbolically transferring what was appropriate in the situation, which at this time was flowing God’s power and blessing via himself to each one of them.

Second Peter chapter 3


Verses 5-7:

.5For this is un-noticed intentionally by-them that (the) heavens used-to-be from-old and (the) earth (used-to-be) having stood-together2 with the word of God from water and by means of water, .6by means of which (waters) the then world having been flooded with water destroyed-itself; .7but now the heavens and the earth with the same word are having been treasured2 being kept into (the) day of judgment and destruction of not-reverential men with fire.

In truth, this is intentionally not noticed by them (it by-passes their minds’ knowledge, escapes their notice willingly) that…

·         the heavens (the areas above the earth) were continuing during a period of time that has now become old

·         and the earth was continuing during a past time standing in conjunction with the heavens and continuing to stand

o   with the word of God (by what God spoke, the spoken account of the inner-thoughts of God)

§  from water (out from water; refer to Genesis 1:6-8)

§  and by means of water (through water; refer to Genesis 1:9 and 10),

·         by means of which waters (both the water above and the water below the earth as described in Genesis 1:6-10)

o   the then world (the ordered-arrangement where mankind inhabited which existed at that past time from creation until the flood)

§  having been flooded (deluged cataclysmically, inundated down on)

§  with/by/in water

o   destroyed itself (caused itself to be destroyed, to be utterly ruined, completely lost away from God and mankind);

·         but at the present time the heavens and the earth with/by the same word (as verse 5 above – the word of God)

·         are

o   having been treasured (stored up, laid in store, stored-up as in a thesaurus, in-storage) and they are still treasured

·         being kept into the day (presently being kept, as an eye being kept on them, they are being watched-over with a view to, directed to the time-period)

·         of

o   judgment (the action of pronouncing sentence, the process of making a separating decision, the passing of judgment, a decision being made in judgment)

o   and destruction (loss, perdition, the state of being utterly lost and ruined away-from God)

§  of not-reverential men (human-beings who are without reverential respect for God, who do not have reverence to/for God)

o   with/by/in fire.

Philippians 3:1


3:1From-now-on, my brothers, you must joy in (the) Lord. To write the same-things to you indeed (is) not slothful to me but to you (it is) safety.

Once again, Paul addresses the Philippian holy-people as “brothers” plus the word “my” – my brothers – reminding them that all holy-people have received the same holy spirit-life from God by means of the Lord Jesus Christ, which makes all holy-people children of God.

From now on (in this context referring to the rest of the time, as to the rest, pertaining to the time remaining, henceforth), my brothers…

·         it is imperative that you joy (rejoice, be in the state of elation or enjoyment, be joyful)

o   within the cause and sphere of action of the Lord (not in me nor in the fact of Epaphroditus' arrival – but you must rejoice in your Master; emphasis is being placed on the truth that the Lord Jesus Christ is the Master).

To write the same-things to you (repeating things that I have already written)…

·         indeed is not slothful to/for me (it is not tardy or lazy, there is no hesitation on my part, I am not shrinking from my responsibility)

·         but to/for you it is safety (for me to write the same things to you affords safety, gives surety, certainty, it cannot be tripped-up or thrown-down and thereby fall from its correct position).

Paul was reinforcing what he had already taught these holy-people. He was repeating himself by revelation, not because he was slothful, nor was he non-receptive to additional revelation, nor did he forget what he had already written!

Luke chapter 24


Early in the morning on Sunday 18th Nisan.

Luke 24:1-12:

24:1But on (day-)one of the sabbaths, deep daybreak, they came on the memorial carrying spices which they prepared, .2but they found the stone having been rolled-away2 from the memorial-place, .3but having gone-into (it) they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.

.4And it came-to-pass in them despairing concerning this-thing, also look!, two adult-males stood-on them in lightning clothing. .5But (after) their becoming fearful-within and leaning the faces into the earth, they said towards them, "Why do you seek-after the (one) living with the dead-people? .6He is not here - but he was raised-up; you must be caused-to-remember as he uttered-forth to you yet being in Galilee .7saying that it is necessary (for) the son of man to be given-over into (the) hands of sinful men, and to be crucified, and to resurrect the third day."

.8And they were caused-to-remember his spoken-matters; .9and having returned from the memorial-place they announced all these-things to the eleven and all the remaining-people.

.10But they used-to-be Mary the Magdelene and Joanna and Mary the (mother) of James, and the remaining (women) together-with them - they used-to-say these-things towards the apostles; .11and these spoken-matters were brought-to-light as-though idle-talk before them and they used-to-disbelieve them.

.12But Peter having stood-up ran on the memorial-place and having bent-alongside he observes the little-linen-cloths only; and he went-away marveling towards himself the-thing having come-to-pass2.

Revelation chapter 12


A war came to pass within the heaven (it did not happen on earth). This battle occurred during the 40 days...

·         between the resurrection by God of Jesus Christ (refer to Matthew chapter 28, Acts 1:3-8, Romans 8:31-39, etc)

·         and the ascension of the Lord Jesus Christ into heaven when God placed him at His right-hand side being second-in-command to God Himself (refer to Acts 1:9-11, Ephesians 1:20-22, Hebrews 2:5-10, I Peter 3:21 and 22, etc).

John writes some details of this war in the heaven:

·         Michael and his angels (Michael is the archangel, the first, highest, chief, or ruling angel)

o    went for the purpose of having a war with (he came to cause a battle against)

o    the dragon,

·         and the dragon warred and his angels (they fought back against Michael and his angels)

o    and the dragon was not strong (he did not have the inherent strength, he did not prevail)

o    nor was their place yet found in the heaven (the dragon and his angels did not still have a location for them to be present within the heaven – their ability to disrupt God's and the Lord Jesus Christ's realm in heaven is no longer available to them),

·         and the dragon,

o    emphatically and specifically the great (large) dragon,

o    the snake (the name "snake/serpent" is used to describe his activities, attitudes, etc, designating his distinguishing and distinctive constitution; snakes were known to be thoughtful, sensible, intellectual, and perceptive in their activities),

§  emphatically and specifically the old snake (the serpent that existed during the beginning or former time-period; the Greek word translated "old" emphasizes his former existence as a "snake" against mankind; refer to Genesis chapter 3),

·         was thrown (cast) -

o    the one who is presently being called (in order to designate and describe the dragon's distinguishing and distinctive constitution, character, quality, workings, etc – the dragon is known-by or named-as)

§  devil (the word translated "devil" comes from the Greek word diabolos which translates into 2 words meaning: "through" and "throw/cast" – the devil throws/casts things through people, like stabbing a person from outside through the person and out the other side with an accusation, slander, etc, endeavoring to break any connection between God and mankind)

§  and satan (this is the name that emphasizes the dragon's opposing and adversarial attributes being in total opposition to the only true God),

o    the one who is presently causing the whole inhabited area to wander (he is making the entire dwelled-in parts of the world err, causing the inhabitants not to stay in their rightful place, leading them astray from their correct location in the walk/behavior category, like a planet is constantly moving around when viewed from the earth unlike the stars which retain their position relative-to each other) -

·         he was thrown (cast) into the earth, and his angels with him were thrown into the earth.
